Weekly Crime Roundup: Bringing you the incidents and reports of the last week, with some analysis of bigger stories.

Fri 8 June: Harrow

A man was sentenced for 5 years for sex offences against four males in Harrow and remains on the sex offender register for life.

Hasnain Manji, 43, pleaded guilty to fifteen counts of inciting a child to sexual activity and indecent assault at Harrow Crown Court in January.

He assaulted a 12 year old and a 10 year old in 1989, one of who was asleep. He assaulted two more victims aged 12 and 14 between August 2010 and May 2011. The victims confided in their mother who alerted the police. He was employed for a number of years as a teacher at the Madressa, part of the Islamic Centre in Stanmore.

The MPS Child Abuse Investigation Command’s Detective Constable Rachel Snow said: “The first two victims suffered in silence for many years trying to put what happened to them at the back of their minds. I commend the bravery of the victims for coming forward. Today justice has been done as this man received his sentence, ensuring no other innocent child shall suffer in his hands in the future.”

The NSPCC has set up a help line for victims of these offences who feel they can’t directly go to the police and offer language services. The helpline is 0808 800 5000.
