A rape in Regent’s Park in the early morning on Saturday is the subject of a police investigation.

A woman, 19, was walking in the south east corner of Regent’s Park just before 7am when she was approached by a man. He physically dragged her into nearby bushes where she was raped, before the victim managed to escape and alerted a passer-by.

The suspect is described as black, around 20 years of age, medium build and 5ft 7in tall with short hair. He was wearing a blue or green T-shirt, a white and dark baseball cap and dark jeans, also with white sports shoes. He walked with a distinctive swaying gait.

Westminster Sapphire Unit Detective Inspector Nicky Arrowsmith said: “Although this incident took place just before 7am, early morning users such as joggers or dog walkers would have been out and about.”

He appeals for any information or sightings or anyone who recognises the description of the suspect. Call the Westminster Sapphire Unit on 0207 321 8040 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
